Dear Sophie,
Guess what! During the holidays I went to New Caledonia with my family. In Noumea we stayed at
the Pacific Hotel and I swam in the pool every day. As well, I kite-surfed for the first time in my life and my sister snorkelled. In the mornings we crossed the road to go to the beach where we played volleyball. In the evenings we ate French food at wonderful restaurants and my sister went out to nightclubs. Saturday we went to Amedee Island. Fortunately, it was really good weather and there were lots of things to do. Firstly, we climbed the lighthouse – what a magnificent view! Then we fed the fish and we even saw a striped water snake. In my opinion, an experience not to be missed. Next we ate bougna, a New Caledonian speciality, and finally we watched a dance exhibition. Mum danced but she fell over and we laughed. I went shopping but I didn’t buy anything. No presents for you. I’m completely broke. Sorry! I miss you, I can’t wait to see you again. At the same time I really want to go back to New Caledonia. Life is good when you’re young, isn’t it? Are you having fun at boarding school?

Devine quoi! Pendant les vacances je suis allé en Nouvelle-Calédonie avec ma famille. À Nouméa nous sommes restés à l’Hôtel Le Pacifique et j’ai nagé dans la piscine chaque jour. En plus, j’ai fait du kite-surf pour la première fois de ma vie et ma soeur a fait de la plongée en tuba. Tous les matins nous avons traversé la rue pour aller à la plage où nous avons joué au volley. Tous les soirs nous avons mangé de la cuisine française aux restaurants formidables et ma soeur est sortie en boîte de nuit. Samedi nous sommes allés à l’Île Amédée. Heureusement, il faisait très beau et il y avait tant de choses à faire. D’abord, nous avons grimpé le phare – quelle vue magnifique! Puis nous avons donné à manger aux poissons et nous avons même vu un tricot rayé. À mon avis, une expérience à ne pas manquer ! Ensuite, nous avons mangé de la bougna, une spécialité nouvelle-calédonienne, et enfin nous avons regardé un spectacle de danse. Maman a dansé mais elle est tombée et nous avons rigolé. J’ai fait du shopping mais je n’ai rien acheté, donc pas de cadeaux pour toi. Je suis complètement fauché. Désolé ! Tu me manques, j’ai hâte de te revoir. En même temps, j’ai très envie de rentrer en Nouvelle Calédonie. La vie est belle quand on est jeune, n’est-ce pas ? Tu t’amuses à l’internat ?
